Overview:
Department 448 Network Administration Engineering Team works to design, implement, and maintain network infrastructures to support the design, development, testing and integration of system software for US Navy Nuclear Submarines. These network infrastructures, that are served by the System and Network Administrators, support a variety of engineering teams that develop and maintain a variety of submarine platforms and control systems such as: Ship Control, Combat Weapons Systems, Weapons Stowage and Handling, as well as other specialized embedded safety critical shipboard and database systems, simulators, and land based trainers. The Network Administration Engineering team works to assure that these network infrastructures and the engineering development platforms are up to date and follow the latest in cybersecurity standards.
Specific responsibilities include:
Day to day administration of a multi-site Wide Area Network
Long term planning for expansion and obsolescence.
Working with software developers to provide robust development environments while implementing security controls
Support strategy for expansion and obsolescence
Interface closely with internal stakeholders
Qualifications:
Required:
High School diploma or equivalent
5+ years of relevant experience
Internal candidates must be from organiations Outside of Operations (Casciano/Gabriel)
Preferred:
Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Cybersecurity or equivalent technical degree
Understanding of both DoD (National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual) and NIST 800-53 and/or NIST 800-171 security controls, CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, CISSP certifications
Understanding of networks, DNS, Firewall, IPS, Active Directory
Familiar with Containers, networking in containers
Familiar with Gitlab, Log360, Tenable, VEEAM, Jazz, WSUS
Skills:
Strong interpersonal, organizational, communication, and writing skills, including the ability to write documentation
Highly motivated, with ability to perform independently, as well as interact with other groups and organizations in an engineering environment
In-depth knowledge of:
Computer network infrastructures
Operating systems (Windows, Linux, Solaris)
Virtualization technologies (Linux KVM, VMWare, ESXi, or Qemu)
Shell scripting (csh, bash, perl)
Physical Qualifications:
Climbing, Kneeling, Light Lifting, Medium Lifting, Pulling, Pushing, Reaching, Stooping, Twisting
