Overview:
D454’s, Tactical Software Engineering, System and Network Administrators work to establish networks and tools needed by many engineering teams to design, develop, integrate, and test software for the US Navy Nuclear Submarines. System and network administrators leverage the state-of-the-art technologies on a variety of submarine platforms and control systems such as: Ship Control, Combat Weapons Systems, Weapons Stowage and Handling, as well as other specialized embedded real-time safety critical shipboard and database systems, simulators, and land based trainers. The System Administration team works to ensure that these development platforms are up to date and follow the latest in cybersecurity standards.

 

Specific responsibilities include:

Day to day administration of multi-site Wide Area Network

Provide support to software and system development teams

Working with software developers to provide robust development environments while implementing security controls

Support strategy for expansion and obsolescence

Interface closely with internal stakeholders

Qualifications:
Required:

Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Cybersecurity or related field

Internal candidates  must be from organizations outside of Operations (Gildart/Gabriel).

 OR

3+ years of relevant work experience in Windows or Linux System Administration

Preferred:

Identity Management (i.e. Active Directory), networking (i.e. Cisco), backup solutions (i.e. VEEAM), log management (i.e. Log360)

Vulnerability management and assessment tools such as ACAS, Tenable, Nessus

Deployment of OS images and securing systems

Understanding of OS configuration standards, DNS, Firewall

Network infrastructure certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+

Security frameworks such as DoD NISPOM (National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual), NIST SP 800-53, or NIST SP 800-171 security controls

Skills:
Skills:

Strong interpersonal, organizational, communication, and writing skills, including the ability to write technical documentation

Highly motivated, with ability to perform independently, as well as interact with other groups and organizations

Familiarity with configuration management and quality assurance

Virtualization technologies such as Hyper-V, VMWare, KVM

Shell scripting or general-purpose programming language such as PowerShell, bash, Python
